Session Drumming, Live Performance & Lessons
I’ve Been Playing Drums Professionally for 14 Years. I Also Know How the Music Business Actually Works.
I’m a founding member of Kolton Moore & the Clever Few. 14 years of touring, real stages, and earning it the hard way. I also build a career in the tech and podcast industry, which means I understand content, streaming, audience growth, and the business side that most drummers never think about. Whether you need a session player, a live drummer, or someone to teach you the instrument, let’s talk.
14 years. Hundreds of shows. Multiple bands.

The Band Laredo · Granbury, Texas · Co-founder, drummer from 2021-2023. Played on 1 Single “Plane Crash”, 1st EP “Fast Johny” · Opened shows for Treaty Oak Revival and more
Here’s who I work with:
Recording Artists who need a drummer that actually listens to the song and crafts a part that elevates the song.
Live Bands that need a drummer who will show up prepared, learn the material, and not make the gig harder than it has to be.
Aspiring or Semi-Pro Drummers who want to improve but are tired of trying to learn on their own or from teachers who don’t have real-world experience doing what they want to do.
The common thread: Drumming is a craft that takes time to develop, and finding someone who takes it as seriously as you do is harder than it should be. I’ve been at this my whole life (I’m 40 now). I take it extremely seriously. And I’m always ready to work.
What’s different about working with me:
I’ve been playing drums for 14 years in a real touring band (not a hobby project). We tour nationally, we’ve put out six records, and we’ve earned every bit of it the hard way. That experience shapes everything I do, whether I’m tracking a session, playing a live gig, or teaching someone what I’ve learned.
But I’ve also spend over a decade in the tech and podcast industry. I’ve worked at companies like Simplecast and Chartable/Spotify, which means I understand content, streaming, and audience growth in ways most musicians don’t think about. If you’re an artist building a presence alongside your music, I can be a more useful collaborator than just a person behind the kit.
What you get when you work with me:
You get a drummer who’s done it.
Not a hobbyist. Not a YouTube guy. Someone who has put in the road time and knows what it actually takes.
You get reliability.
I show up prepared. I learn the material. I don’t make the gig harder than it needs to be.
You get someone who understands the bigger picture.
The recording, the content, the streaming strategy: I’ve been in that world professionally. I bring that context to every project.
How I work with people:
Session Drumming
Remote or in-person drum tracks for your recording project. I’ll learn your material, ask the right questions, and deliver something that serves the song, not my ego. If you’re on a tight budget, we’ll figure out the best way to get you drum tracks that still make the song sound great.
Live Performance
Available to hire for shows, tours, or events. I come prepared, I’m easy to work with, and I know how to hold down a live set.
Lessons & Coaching
Whether you’re just starting out or trying to break through a plateau, I teach from more than 14 years of real-world experience, not just technique books. I offer lessons for adults (18+) in-person at my home in Fort Worth, or remotely.
A little about me.
I started playing drums when I was 12, and more seriously in my early twenties. In 2012, I co-founded Kolton Moore & the Clever Few — a Texas Alt-Country & Rock band based out of Fort Worth. Nearly 15 years later, we’re still at it. Six albums, hundreds of shows, national touring, and 300+ million streams and counting.
Alongside the band, I’ve spent over a decade working in the tech and podcast industry (first as an independant podcast producer and editor, then working at startups Simplecast and Chartable). That experience gave me deeper insights into the music business. I understand the value of quality content, how to make it, how to use technology to build a sustainable long-term business, how streaming platforms think and work, and how artists build audiences in the modern landscape. It’s an unusual combination, but it makes me a more useful collaborator to people who take building their band seriously.
Outside of that work, I love lifting weights at my Crossfit gym, running with the Ampersand run club, riding my bike along the Trinity river, playing video games, and riding my Honda Shadow Phantom motorcycle when the weather is nice. I’m still living in Fort Worth, Texas. I try take my craft seriously without taking myself too seriously.
My Musical Influences
Curious about the music that shaped my playing? I made a playlist for that:
Testimonials
“The only fellow in the band who’s been in the band as long as me… He’s damn good at the drums.”
– Kolton Moore, Kolton Moore & the Clever Few
“Aaron Dowd is one of the most proactive musicians I have been around. He is always looking for new innovative ways to improve himself without public credibility. Aaron keeps and sustains a great attitude and is always looking to better himself in all dimensions in life, whether it is playing drums, working on his health and fitness goals, or being a good pal.”
“I had the absolute pleasure of being able to start a band with Aaron back in 2021. Together we recorded 6 songs that have since then helped us gain our first record deal, play our very first show opening for a 1,500+ people crowd, gain a strong regional following in DFW, and provided the first push we needed to become a functional band. It is Aaron I owe the gratitude for his hard work, creativity, positivity, and most importantly his friendship. We most certainly would not be in the current position we are in today without Aaron’s contribution. I 1,000% recommend jamming and learning from him. He is an exceptional artist and human.”
– Lucas Cote, Laredo
